ABOUT THE ART: SSF 2025
ANDY DAVIS
The 4th Annual Solento Surf Festival is almost here and in the spirit of all things art, surf, and culture, we wanted to spotlight this year's artist: Andy Davis. In our chat with Andy, we dove into his creative inspirations, his artistic process and how he unwinds and takes things slow.
ABOUT THE ART
Solento: Andy, tell us a little about yourself. Where are you from, where are you now, and how do you spend your days?
Andy: My name is Andy , what's yours? I am from Earth, California. Now I am at my studio in Encinitas answering?’s on my device.
Solento: Your work has come to be a staple of the Encinitas landscape and community, how would you say that came to be?
Andy: Yes, my there is a Plethora of my markings about the region. I suspect that is due to my dwelling in the community for many moons.
Solento: Can you explain a little about your style and what the inspirations were that helped shape your art?
Andy: My style … Hmmm, well someone once called me and a dear friend Hobosexuals. As far as the art or creative side of that question I would have to answer from many other talented humans that have been showing and telling me for a long time. I really [like] muppets too.
Solento: Can you tell us a little about what your process looked like when you started to dive into the SSF design?
Andy: My process when setting out to dive deep is to have some coffee, put on some music, do a little kick, stretch, kick and then start laying down some lines.
Solento: Life gets pretty busy sometimes, where do you find your 'slow'?
Andy: I find my slow on a daily walkabout — usually the beach or surrounding neighborhoods.
Andy: Some fun projects I have been blessed to take part in the last few months are I got to do an artist residency in New Zealand with the most wonderful folks at Crystal Cylinder on the North Island. I also went to Bali to do another residency and have a show with my amigos Jon Wegener, Ozzy Wright and Chris Del Moro at UluWatu Surf Villas Drifter Shop, which was nothing short or amazing. I finished a mural a few weeks ago at the Ecology Center in San Juan Capistrano which was also super fun! My friend Alex Knost is doing a show with us at my gallery space in Encinitas called Club Paradise that I now share with Caddis Eye Appliances on Aug 29! Then on Sept 10th we are doing a pop up with you, the good people of Solento! Mahalo … Andy
Solento: What are some other recent pieces you are proud of and want to share?
Come see Andy Davis’ art (AND OTHER WORKS) at the SSF ART EXHIBIT ON TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 16TH AT FOUR MOONS SPA.
